In chapter 24, he described the terrible worldwide destruction on the day of the Lord. My commentary developed several lessons from these predictions:
1) "God is in control of the nations of the world, and He can do with them what He pleases.
2) God especially hates the sin of pride.
3) God judges the nations for the way they treat each other.
4) God always gives a word of promise and hope to His people.
5) Sin has consequences in nature as well as in human character and conscience.
6) No matter how frightening the national or international situation may become, God's children can have peace because they know Almighty God is on His throne. The nations may rage and plot against God, but 'He who sits in the heavens shall laugh ...'"
Father, I'm so thankful that I worship the All-Powerful God. No nation can stand against You. Help our nation to understand that we are but putty in Your hands, and that You will judge us for the way we fail to help other nations which are being invaded. Keep us away from the sin of pride, and give us peace within as the world spins out of control.
