John is shown a sealed scroll representing both “Christ’s
title deed to all that the Father promised Him because of His sacrifice on the
cross,” and God’s plan to set us
free from the bondage of sin, which could never be accomplished without Jesus’
sacrifice. “The redeemer had to be near of kin, willing to redeem, and able
to redeem. Jesus Christ meets all of the
qualifications. He became flesh, so He is
our Kinsman. He loves us and is willing
to redeem, and He paid the price, so
He is able to redeem.”
The chapter centers on worshipping
Him because of who He is (“the Lamb is God the Son, Christ
Jesus”); because of where He is (“in
Heaven, on the throne, the center of all that transpires in heaven”); because
of what He does (He was able to open the scroll and complete redemption); and because
of what He has (all power, all
riches, all wisdom, all strength, all honor and glory, and all praise).
Worshipping the Redeemer is not something everyone can do. “While an unconverted person could praise the
Creator, he certainly could not sincerely praise the Redeemer,” for he’s
never been redeemed.
Father, I thank You for choosing to redeem me before the foundation of the world,
and for pursuing me so that I could ask for such redemption. Help me to not let sin inhibit my ability to
offer praise and worship to my Redeemer.
Keep me focused on Him and what He’s done for me.
Your Brother In Christ,
Gary Ford
